Agriculture is the main source of income among many Ecuadorians. But due to other factors such as oil exploration, this sector has been neglected and has showed a major decline especially during the 1970’s. But the agricultural sector has shown an improvement in the 1980’s and has contributed to the 26.5% of labor force in the 1990’s contributing to 11% GDP of the year 2000. The coffee industry has also provided major contributions to the Ecuadorian economy in the early years of 1970’s but fell short in the succeeding decades due to a tough competition in the world market.
